Snowboards FAQ
Camber gives more pop and a locked-in edge on firm snow, which is why most advanced boards use it. Rocker is easier to turn and more forgiving for beginners and park, and Lib Tech pairs rocker with serrated Magne-Traction edges so its boards still grip on hardpack. Our rocker vs. camber guide explains the hybrids in between.
Start with the rider-weight range the brand lists for each board length; Jones and K2 both call weight the most important factor. Then check the length lands roughly between your chin and nose, and go a few centimetres shorter for park or longer for powder.
If your boots are men's US 10.5 or larger, check whether you need a wide board so your toes and heels don't drag. The cutoff varies by brand, from US 10 at Jones to US 11.5 at HEAD, so check the board's width chart against your boot size.
A soft-to-medium-flex all-mountain board with some rocker or a flat section in the profile is the easiest to turn and the least likely to catch an edge. A soft camber board can work too, but it is less forgiving. Our snowboarding basics guide covers what to learn on your first days.
